Everyone Plays - Including Special Needs Children in Youth Sport Programs
What is the role of youth sport organizations regarding children with special needs and disabilities? How do society's attitudes and practices impede progress toward inclusion? What role can adapted physical activity professionals play as advocates for increased opportunities in sport for children with disabilities? Baddour Center - Independent Living in a Supervised Community
Baddour Center was organized in 1976 as a result of a bequest to benefit the community. It was to be a place for someone with mental retardation to live with loving supervision, yet personal autonomy - a place where a person could move about freely, learn home living skills, have regular work hours, and have peers with whom to socialize. Learn more about this very special environment from authors Michael Dupper and Gena Lott as they describe the mission and the typical daily routine, to the exercise program which includes cardiovascular and strength/endurance building exercises.

The Power of IDEA: Kling vs. Mentor School District

Effects of Middle School-Aged Partners on the Motor and Affective Behaviors of Students with Severe Disabilities
Twenty-six students, 7-14 years of age, with severe disabilities from a special education school participated in a twelve-week training protocol utilizing the Special Olympics Motor Activities Training Program (MATP). Training was conducted under the direction of the staff at the special school by 5th and 6th grade student partners without disabilities from a neighboring school.
